Obesity By Region
In the world, America was almost always the most obese country until last year. Mexico has 32.8% of their people being obese, where the United States has 31.8% (Daniel, 2013). Mexico has seen such a drastic jump in their obesity due to many US Fast Food chains such as McDonalds, Taco Bell, and Wendy's opening up many branches down in Mexico. Also, their diets usually consist of fried foods which are high in fats. America also faces a similar issue and is why our obesity rates are nearly the same.
There are many countries with their obesity rates ranging from 20 to 30 percent. If you research the typical diets of these other countries, you will see how their diets differ. Many cultures practice healthy lifestyles and more or less follow the "Eat to live, don't live to eat".
There are ten states in the US with 30 to 36 percent of their residents being Obese. The highest obesity rates reside in Mississippi, West Virginia, Delaware, Louisiana, and Arkansas. Ohio comes in at #8 with nearly 31% of Ohioans being obese (Ian, 2014). The overall obesity rate in America has seen steady increases in each state and overall as a country. The states reporting the highest obesity rates are also reporting the highest level of chronic diseases (Ian, 2014). Unfortunately, these high obesity areas also see issues financially, which points back to the quality of the foods we consume. The low quality foods cost less and are all many people can afford, but these foods are stricken with high fat levels and cholesterol.
