Risk factors
There are many risks that are directly associated with obesity. For example, the more overweight you become, the more likely you are to get Coronary Heart Disease. Having a bad diet builds up plaque in your arteries which is the main reason of heart attacks. The extra weight also increases your blood pressure, increase the chance of a stroke, and in many cases with people who have no nutritional consumption, type 2 diabetes is very common.
Being overweight makes sleeping more challenging and even more dangerous due to issues such as Sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is when there are breaks in between your typical breathing cycle. This is most commonly caused due to having more fat built up around the neck area which narrows your airways, making breathing more rushed. Gallstones have also been reported by some overweight people, which may cause severe back pain (NHLBI, 2012).
Obesity can be something that is common throughout your entire immediate family, or even your entire family. Since genetics are only somewhat related to being overweight, it is something that is accepted in the household in some places. Obesity isn't always a choice, but in some cases, an entire family will be overweight due to being born into an unhealthy dieting family. Also, depression is a CAUSE and a RISK of obesity, so it is a double-bladed knife. Many people are different, and some may not have all of these issues. Most commonly with people who don't enjoy being overweight have many issues with their appearance and will be negative toward themselves and not have confidence in their actions. In other words, the quality of life in which you live decreases (Mayo Clinic, 2013)
The below video shows some direct correlations between weight gain and how you are more at risk for many things, such as breast cancer.
